Dallas 24 PLUMBER works on the natural gas piping past your Atmos Energy meter: leaks, new lines, appliance hookups, pressure tests and red-tag repairs ahead of the city release.

Smell gas or hear a hiss? Leave the building first and bring everyone. Don't flip switches or light anything. From outside, call 911 or Atmos Energy, then call us at (844) 313-1397; we send our on-call plumber right away. See if you smell gas.

Atmos Energy's side and yours

Atmos Energy supplies gas in Dallas but doesn't maintain the lines on your property past its meter. That piping is the owner's, buried runs to a pool heater or grill included, and Atmos recommends having buried pipe checked for leaks periodically, since metal pipe that isn't maintained can corrode and leak. Before digging for a new line, call 811 to have utility-owned lines marked for free; it won't mark your own gas pipe.

Permits and inspections in Dallas

The City of Dallas Planning & Development Department requires a permit, a city inspection and a release before gas flows after new piping, a leak repair, any pipe replacement, or any change or addition. The main exception is replacing an approved connector between an appliance and its shut-off valve. Dallas issues gas permits only to state-licensed plumbing contractors registered with the city, or to homeowners working on their own homestead, so ask to see the permit. Commercial properties, restaurants included, also need a current Certificate of Occupancy before the city releases gas.

The plumber doing the work pulls the permit through DallasNow, the city's online portal. A city plumbing inspector watches the capped piping hold pressure on a gauge, checks the appliances and sends the release to Atmos; if the meter was off, you then call Atmos to book the turn-on. Per a January 2026 memo, after-hours city gas inspections carry a $300 fee on top of the permit fee. Neighboring cities set their own rules.

Our Texas plumbing license

Texas plumbing license # M-27587. The Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners issued it, and every gas job on this page is done under it.

What we see around Dallas

We're based south of downtown. Older houses in South Dallas, Oak Cliff and East Dallas, many from the 1920s to the 1950s, often still have threaded steel pipe sized only for heat, hot water and cooking, rarely enough for a generator or tankless heater. In the yard, Blackland Prairie clay swells and shrinks with rain and drought, flexing buried lines.

Gas line services FAQ

Can I add a generator or tankless heater to my existing gas line?

Sometimes. We add up the BTU rating of every appliance on the line, the new one included, and resize the branch if the old pipe can't carry it. See generator gas lines and tankless water heater gas lines.

Can a leaking gas line be repaired, or does it need replacing?

It depends on the damage. A leaking joint, valve or short stretch can often be fixed alone, while a buried steel run corroded along its length is usually better replaced. See gas line repair.

Why test gas piping if nothing smells wrong?

The city requires a witnessed test after new work or repairs, and a slow leak in a buried line can go unnoticed indoors.

Can I call about a gas leak at night?

Yes, at any hour. Once you're outside and have called 911 or Atmos Energy, call us and we send our on-call plumber right away. Planned work such as a new line or hookup is booked at a time that suits you.
